We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been honoured with the 2024 Active Suffolk Award for Innovative Project of the Year! This recognition is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the positive impact that sports can have on people’s lives.
Collaborating with Aspire Basketball Club and Community Praxis, we set out with the aim of uniting the community and reducing antisocial behaviour. Together, we’ve created something truly special.
These sessions have seen over 30 children regularly attend to stay active, build friendships, and develop their skills.
Our basketball sessions have also become a safe space for young people to discuss their joys, concerns, and future steps, even on exam days. We've built strong relationships with the children and their families, creating a supportive environment that extends beyond the sport itself.
Another rewarding outcome of this project has been the tangible improvements to the local area. As a direct result of the sessions, new basketball hoops have been installed, and the addition of floodlights has transformed the space into a safe and welcoming environment that can be enjoyed well into the evening. These enhancements have created a vibrant hub for community engagement and physical activity, making a lasting difference to the neighbourhood.
We are deeply grateful for the support of everyone who has been part of this journey, from the coaches and volunteers to the parents and, of course the incredible young people who bring their energy and enthusiasm to every session. This award is not just a recognition of our efforts but a celebration of what can be achieved when a community comes together to create positive change.
As we look to the future, we are more motivated than ever to continue expanding our initiatives, reaching more young people, and fostering a love for sports and community involvement. Together, we can keep building spaces where everyone feels valued and inspired.
